A GALACTIC SOUND EXPERIENCE

"Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away..." Who doesn't immediately think of the marching sounds from "Star Wars" at these lines? "Space, infinite expanses" is the theme for the Styriarte Youth Orchestra in the summer of 2025. What once inspired the creators of "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" also makes Mei-Ann Chen and her young musicians take off the ground at the speed of light. Get in, and off we go – to the planets alla Gustav Holst, to the kingdom of the Jedi Knights and to Alderaan to Princess Lea. A galactic sound experience awaits the Styriarte audience, enhanced by the light effects of OchoReSotto.

Association of the Highly Gifted

The Styriarte Youth Orchestra was formed for the first time in 2021 and at the request of Andrés Orozco-Estrada in order to create a very young, fresh ensemble for him and our audience to realise the project "Lust for Tchaikovsky". The call for proposals intended to bring together musicians living in Austria between the ages of 16 and 26, who had not yet established themselves professionally. The young musicians come from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Great Britain, Turkey, Colombia, Germany, Chile, Serbia, Italy, Hungary, Ukraine and Venezuela. The selection from the proposals was made by a jury of musicians from top Austrian orchestras together with Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

In the jury, which also accompanies the young people through the project as coaches, were 2021: violinist Sophie Heinrich (concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra), for viola Eszter Haffner (Royal Academy of Music Copenhagen & Kunstuniversität Graz), cellist Maria Grün (Vienna Symphony Orchestra), double bassist Brita Bürgschwendtner (Mozarteumorchester Salzburg), for the woodwinds the clarinettist Andrea Götsch (Vienna State Opera Orchestra), for the brass the horn player Christoph Peham (Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra) and the percussionist Ulrike Stadler (Recreation - Das Orchester).
